LCE celebrates getting planning for Bedes School Boarding House
LCE Architects are delighted to announce that we have received planning permission from Wealden District Council for a new 60 bedroom boarding house in the grounds of Bedes School.
The 7km Special Protection Area around the Ashdown Forest has been a perceived stumbling block to many planning proposals within East Sussex. However, the client and design team worked closely with Wealden District Council and successfully argued that the proposed boarding house was simply replacing existing boarding accommodation that no longer meet the requirements of the school or market expectations, and as such there would be no increase in vehicle movements.
Construction works are due to start on site this summer with a contractor being appointed imminently.
The Planning Officer said of the scheme, ‘The design of the development has been carefully considered, to create a distinctive building in the school complex, which although contemporary in tones, takes visual cues from adjacent blocks.’
