Paragraph 55 House goes in for Planning
LCE have submitted a planning application for The Deer Run, at Midwicket, Balcombe. This is a single new house on a site in the High Weald AONB and within the setting of a listed building. Developed jointly with architect Tom Dowdall, the new home rests at the edge of a meadow within the East Sussex countryside. The house designed around the concept of wellbeing has large windows with angular stone surrounds that give picture framed views of the landscape beyond. At the centre of the plan a courtyard connects the scheme’s perimeter spaces, forming a building that creates an openness throughout.
The team was tasked with providing a building that raised the standards of design in rural areas and significantly enhanced its immediate setting, namely to meet the tests of the “special circumstances” clause of paragraph 55 of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). This builds on our successful consent for a one off house in the countryside outside Hurstpierpoint, achieved by way of PPS7 (Planning Policy Statement 7) project which eventually became NPPF Para 55.
Subtle in its outward appearance. The house’s asymmetrical pitched roof and use of local materials, responds to its context both visually and environmentally. The roof has been cleverly designed through modelling and analysis to provide shade where it is needed most (in the south-west) and shape a unique sustainable living environment within.
Using local stone and traditional clay tiles, the building will sit sensitively among the existing buildings of the area while still offering an exciting individual architecture. Read More
