Planning submitted for a contemporary style house in Ansty

LCE Architects have submitted planning for a new private residence and stables at Westup Farm Cottage, Ansty, Haywards Heath.

The project is the replacement of a tired prefabricated bungalow with a newly designed five bedroom house and riding stables in the East Sussex countryside.

Evoking traditional forms of farm buildings associated with the site’s rural location, the proposal has a number of pitched roofed elements that combine a sleek 1.5 storey contemporary metal clad ‘barn’ volume with several brick structures, to create a striking courtyard arrangement in the heart of the site.

The interior plan of linked spaces provides an open flow through the building, but is grounded with the main access that runs through the scheme linking the living and sleeping accommodation, the front garden to the entrance courtyard and the stable block and ménage beyond.

The main living area and master bedroom are orientated to the south taking advantage of the views, whilst a wing of sleeping accommodation looks out to the open field to the west. To the rear a garage and stable block complete three sides of the entrance courtyard.

To the entrance/south side of the house deep set timber reveals accentuate the pitched roof and glazed façade, drawing visitors in from the approach and framing the panorama beyond.
