Cambridge University CEB

LCE were appointed, through lead consultants BDP, as Specialist Laboratory Design and Planning consultants for the new Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology Research Building (CEB) for the University of Cambridge, located on the west Cambridge site. The new building comprises of a broad range of research and teaching facilities, bringing the two departments together, to make it a world class facility.

This collaboration with BDP was a unique opportunity to combine the complementary expertise of both Practices, adding value to the project for the design, servicing strategy and fitting out of the research / teaching laboratory space.

BDP acknowledge that LCE’s input has been invaluable in resolving laboratory layouts, adjacencies, technical performance specs, vital co-ordination issues within the design team with a very rigorous and effective approach to achieving user ‘sign off’ for lab RDS’s at the end of work stage D and complete FF&E packages for fitout during work stage E. Also, LCE’s on-going support and strategic input from stage E/F programme of works related to key elements of the design specification and interface with the D&B contractor has been highly valued by all parties.
