The brief for the project was to take full advantage of the long views to the South Downs from the site in a contemporary dwelling, able to offer a high quality of living for those in retirement.
The site, formerly a tennis court and grass Paddock to the rear of an existing large house, is located just outside the developable boundary of Pulborough in West Sussex close to the A283.
Although according to the Local Plan there was a presumption against development on the site, its proximity to public transport (running along the A283) enabled the case to be made that it is in a ‘sustainable location’. Hence a consent was achieved by lobbying and gaining the support of the local Parish Council and by demonstrating that emerging National Planning Policy should outweigh the Local Plan.
The house was completion in 2017.
