LCE won planning consent in 2004 for a number of dwellings in various locations in and around the former Dudley Hotel in the Brunswick Town Conservation Area of Brighton & Hove.
The Car Park: this project revitalised a brown field car park site with two five storey four bedroom townhouses and a couple of two bedroom maisonettes. The scheme secured unanimous consent at planning committee due to its contextual design that sought to repair the urban fabric in the conservation area by realising positive redevelopment of this gap site.
The Hotel Roof: the practice managed to secure a planning consent for an extra storey on the hotel for two luxury penthouse serviced apartments despite it being on the sky-line, close to the sea and the listed Brunswick Square. The design had to take account of complex roof adaptation works above an occupied hotel.
The Kitchen Block: this comprised the conversion of a redundant hotel kitchen block into three mews houses.
Brunswick Street West: The project comprised two elements. The first element required the conversion of redundant hotel premises to create a three bedroom mews house. The second element comprised the rebuilding of a stable block into a high specification three bedroom townhouse including integral garage, home office and games den.
Other works: The practice also secured planning consent for a second hotel entrance directly into the restaurant and provided interior design concepts for the public areas to be implemented by the owners.
